Job Introduction
Learning Support Assistant – St John the Baptist Church of England Primary School
St John the Baptist Church of England Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our friendly and hardworking team. You will work closely with the SENDCo and class teacher to support children across our wonderful school
Learning Support Assistants play a vital role in helping our children achieve their very best, and we deeply value the contribution they make. Successful candidates will be keen to learn, have a positive attitude, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Above all, you should enjoy working with children and be committed to supporting their development.
We recognise that the experience needed to support children with SEND can come from a wide range of life experiences as well as formal qualifications. We warmly welcome applications from all suitable candidates and are happy to answer any questions or arrange a visit to the school prior to interview.
This is a responsible and rewarding role, offering the opportunity to make a significant difference to the lives of young children. Children who find learning more challenging will have both good days and difficult days; the successful applicant will be calm, adaptable, and confident in adjusting learning tasks to meet individual needs.
We are looking for a colleague who:
- Understands children and can see the world from their perspective
- Demonstrates our school values of courage, compassion, and creativity
- Communicates effectively with children and helps them feel safe and secure
- Understands child development and the barriers to learning
- Is willing to undertake training for medical and learning support responsibilities
- Can provide children with constructive feedback and clear next steps
- Uses IT confidently to enhance learning
- Has experience working with children or adults with SEND
- Communicates clearly and professionally with colleagues and the wider school community
- Quickly absorbs information and communicates with confidentiality and empathy
- Puts the needs of children first when making decisions
- Has GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
- Can work independently, adapting activities as needed
- Has experience working in a primary school or similar setting with children
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
We do not currently use AI tools in our recruitment processes; however, we understand that applicants may choose to use them when preparing their application.
If you do, please keep in mind:
- AI-generated responses can be generic and may not reflect your true skills, experience, or personality
- Overuse of AI may make your application feel less personal or engaged
- All information submitted must be accurate and genuinely represent your own voice
- Relying too heavily on AI may make it harder to communicate confidently and authentically during interviews
