Denmead Infant School is a popular village infant school, known for its warm, child-centred approach and strong family and community focus. Nestled in beautiful grounds, we provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is valued and supported to flourish. Due to a falling national birth rate, we have recently adjusted our PAN from 90 to 60, allowing us to maintain small, attentive class sizes and a personalised approach to learning. Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the early years of children’s education? Denmead Infant School is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive team. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on whole class responsibility within EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2, working closely with class teachers to foster independence and support children’s learning and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume whole class responsibility for teaching and learning (PPA / absence cover) in EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 classes as directed by class teachers.
- Use specialist resources and strategies to support disadvantaged (including SEND) children, encouraging independence and resilience.
- Understand that behaviour is a ‘communication of need’ and collaborate with staff to maintain high expectations and a calm, positive learning environment.
- Maintain consistently high expectations of all children and provide tailored support to help them succeed.
- Work closely with teaching staff to uphold the school’s inclusive ethos and commitment to every child’s progress.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Has an HLTA qualification
- Proven experience working with early years and Key Stage 1 children.
- Specialist skills in supporting disadvantaged pupils and fostering independence.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management as communication and strategies to maintain calm and positive environments.
- Ability to take whole class responsibility and deliver engaging, well-structured learning activities.
- Has English and Maths qualifications to at least GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent.
