Job/Person Summary

Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to work with children, to help them ‘be the best that they can be’?

Denmead Junior School is a 'good' school (Ofsted October 2019).  We are also ‘an outstandingly happy school’ and are passionate about all children achieving their potential. Our school motto is ‘Be Kind, Be Brave, Be You.’  Our three core values are Inclusive, Authentic and Aspire for Excellence.

The needs of the children are always paramount in life and decision-making within a school and our children are at the heart of everything we do. We aim to provide a rich and varied curriculum through our wonderful and unique learning environments and extensive facilities. Our school curriculum is designed to motivate and excite our children, as well as to provide them with the knowledge, skills and personal traits and dispositions they need to be fully equipped and empowered to embrace their future. Teachers from all classes have PPA together, planning the same curriculum and experiences, including trips and residential visits, which are attended as a year group.

We encourage learning outside the classroom through visits to places of interest, utilising the beautiful Hampshire countryside, panoramic coastline, and the impressive naval heritage on our doorstep. Our natural, tree-enclosed environments offer all learners, from Year 3 to Year 6, regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom. Our Forest School and our outdoor nature space hosts a full outdoor classroom, a performance stage, orchard and raised planter beds which the children use to grow and sell their own crops. This whole area is accessed by all children routinely as part of our curriculum.

We strive to be an inclusive school - we celebrate our differences, encourage individuality and independence, and work hard every day to ensure that our school is a place where everyone feels valued and included. All staff work collegiately across the school, including with the Infant School, to drive our culture of high aspirations for all.

We are looking to recruit passionate and enthusiastic classroom learning support assistants to join our equally passionate and enthusiastic staff team.

The successful candidates will:

  • Have a child-centred approach
  • Be able to create a structure for children with SEND needs
  • Have the ability to work across a KS2 setting.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and to a fixed timetable
  • Have experience of working with children with social/communication difficulties in a small group setting.
  • Have the ability to keep pupils motivated and engaged
  • Have a calm but firm approach
  • Be able to adapt and think on your feet
  • Be flexible and willing to learn
  • Be able to attune to a child’s emotional needs
  • Be able to work as part of a team, learning with and from other colleagues
  • Be able to work independently and on your own initiative
  • Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrate excellent behaviour management skills
  • Understand confidentiality and safeguarding procedures

Through commitment, innovation and a strong focus on inclusive teaching, we are looking for candidates who can help us ‘be the best that we can be’! We are keen to appoint individuals with a proactive and positive attitude, who can enrich the lives of the learners and staff with whom they work.

The post provides an excellent opportunity for you to develop your career within an attractive and well-resourced working environment, supported by a talented, dedicated and collegiate team of staff.

In return we can offer you;

  • A school that has a positive and caring ethos, where emotional well-being is at the heart of our culture
  • Happy and well-motivated children
  • A skilled and dedicated team, committed to doing the best for its children
  • A supportive leadership team and governing body with a commitment to your professional development
  • Training and CPD opportunities to enable you to be both happy and successful in your role

Application Procedure

We welcome applications from candidates who have the experience, skills, enthusiasm and commitment to become our next member of staff.  Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged.  Application forms and to book a visit, please contact our School Business Manager, Mrs Lorraine Connett on 02392 252735 or email: l.brown@denmead-jun.hants.sch.uk
